ABOUT Community Engagement
Strengthening safety. Expanding opportunity. Rooted in hospitality.
Local restaurants play a unique role in building thriving communities. When restaurants succeed, neighborhoods grow stronger. They create jobs, bring people together, and serve as everyday gathering places that foster connection and belonging.

Through community initiatives focused on issues such as gun violence prevention, workforce development, and food access, we work alongside restaurants to help build safer, more supportive communities where people can thrive.
Rajan's Story
& WHY THIS WORK MATTERS

At inKind, we have always believed that restaurants are more than businesses. They are places of connection, dignity, and belonging spaces where people build careers, form relationships, and find community. Hospitality, at its core, is an act of care: for employees, for guests, and for the neighborhoods that make restaurants possible.

Our understanding of this responsibility deepened in the most painful way when our brother and co-founder, Rajan, was killed by gun violence. His loss profoundly changed us, personally and as a company.

In the wake of that tragedy, we reflected on the role we could play in strengthening the communities our restaurant partners serve. As a company that supports thousands of independent restaurants across the country, we recognize that safety and opportunity are essential to the health of any neighborhood.

Restaurants are uniquely positioned as employers, training grounds, and community anchors. Stable employment, mentorship, and clear pathways to advancement are among the strongest protective factors in community life.
Through Community Engagement, we partner with restaurants and community organizations to expand opportunity, increase access to food, and support long-term neighborhood resilience.
A Call to Action for Restaurants
We have developed a practical resource guide outlining steps restaurants can take to promote safety, support their teams, and strengthen community stability, without compromising the openness and warmth that define hospitality.

The guide includes actionable approaches related to:

  • Firearm safety awareness and preparedness
  • Employment and mentorship pathways
  • Community partnerships
  • Mental health support
  • Crisis response readiness

We invite restaurant owners and leaders everywhere to engage, act, and help make their communities safer places to work, gather, and belong.
